Work is underway in Fairbury to restore a large Occident Flour mural.
Dale Maley, who is doing the painting for the project, explains what’s happening with the mural.
“This is part of the Fairbury improvement group that Terry Zimmerman has been leading since July 2015. We put together a list of projects to use some of Fairbury’s history to let the citizens know about it and also visitors. The historic murals were one of those items. We finished that a couple months ago. Now, it’s time to repaint the Occident Flour mural. Based on how it’s going, I’m figuring about two weeks (until it’s finished.) This week I’m working on the ground level and I have scaffolding reserved for next week to work on the upper level. I’m also going to paint the windows Old City Hall Yellow, so the whole side of the building should look pretty good when it’s done,” Maley said.
This mural is located on the northeast corner of Locust and Second streets in Fairbury.
