The time of year known as tornado season is underway and the Pontiac Fire Department has some guidelines to help keep people safe.

Pontiac Fire Chief Scott Runyon was a guest on a recent Community Forum and said aside from having a NOAA weather radio handy, there are other things people can do in advance to prepare for severe weather.

“It doesn’t hurt to have a little care package made up that you can grab – water, flash light, batteries, extra batteries, blanket, pillow. If you’re in your own home, you can have that stored in a certain area and have it ready to go. If you have to go somewhere else, grab it and take it with you. Just have a plan of what you’re going to do, just in case,” Runyon said.
