Several new state laws will be coming in January.

Pontiac Police Chief Jim Woolford highlighted one concerning underage 911 immunity. He explained that means if an underage person has been drinking and they or another person needs medical help, they can call 911 without the fear of being arrested.

“The main idea is we need to get help to people rather than fear prosecution and not make a phone call. Alcohol claims a lot of young lives every year from alcohol poisoning and we don’t want that to happen,” Woolford said.

He also said powdered alcohol will be illegal beginning January 1.
