Jock Jibberish: More turkey tips

And here we are, talking about food again! But there’s no better time to talk about the eight mistakes people make with their Thanksgiving turkey.

These are some of the mistakes people make while making their turkey:

Not thawing it out soon enough. a 12-16 pound turkey takes FOUR DAYS to thaw! If you didn’t take it out in enough time, you can still thaw it in cold water, and even that takes 30 minutes per pound, so do the math – that’s eight hours for a 16 pound turkey!

Carving the turkey as soon as it’s out of the oven. You should actually wait 15 minutes, so the juices have time to soak into the meat.

Carving the entire turkey at once. That’s ok if you’re going to eat it all at Thanksgiving, but if you’re saving leftovers, those pieces will dry in the fridge. It’s better to cut off the legs and breasts and put them in the fridge whole and just cut off slices whenever you want them.
