As parents, we all want what’s best for our kids and us and that means helping them to get an education and then find a job that will keep them from moving back home, right? Well, Time magazine analyzed Census data to figure out which college majors are most likely to lead people back to living in their parent’s basement at age 22 and at age 29. Criminal justice majors are most likely to move home right after college. Sixty-one percent live with their parents when they’re 22. There are seven other majors where at least HALF of people move back home: Education, history, liberal arts and humanities, architecture, communications, medical health science and services and physical fitness.
Engineering majors are the least likely to live at home after college. Only 32 percent moved back in with their parents. When you get to age 29, history majors are the most likely to still be living at home at 16 percent. Also, 15 percent of psychology, liberal arts and philosophy majors are still living with their parents.
I’m a little nervous because I don’t see my daughter’s majors on the list. Is that good or bad? Let’s say good.
