Although it’s not quite the polar vortex of last year, temperatures are reaching dangerously low levels all across our beloved Midwest. It is important for all of us to recognize the potentially life-threatening weather conditions and take all necessary safety precautions. Here are a couple tips for beating the chill:
- Stay indoors as much as possible and limit your exposure to the cold
- Dress in layers and keep dry
- Know the symptoms of cold-related health issues such as frostbite hypothermia and seek medical attention if those symptoms are severe
- Please bring your pets inside to ensure they have a warm shelter area with unfrozen water
- Make sure to keep your vehicle packed with an emergency kit that includes an ice scraper, blanket and flashlight and be sure to keep your fuel tank over halfway full
- If you absolutely must drive, do not travel alone. Also keep other informed of your schedule and stay on the main roads.
