District 90 School Board Approves Tax Abatement Plan

Pontiac District 90 is now officially a part of a tax abatement plan proposed by the Greater Livingston County Economic Development Council. That decision was made by the District 90 board at their regular meeting last night. Superintendent Jon Kilgore says the plan developed by Adam Dontz of the GLCEDC, is designed to foster a more robust economy in Livingston County, and he says the district is glad to be part of that effort. “We’re trying to invest in the community through the tax abatement program,” Kilgore said after the meeting. “Tonight we approved the signing of the memorandum of understanding… and we’re looking forward to joining the other taxing bodies.”

Other taxing bodies throughout the county have already signed onto the plan, which offers tax incentives to new businesses based on their size and the number of new employees they bring on board. Existing businesses will also benefit from the plan if they expand or expand their workforce.

The board also approved the tentative tax levy that was submitted last month. A final decision on those figures will be made by the tax assessor’s office in the spring. The board got a look at the district’s calendar for the upcoming year as well. No action was taken, and Kilgore says District 90’s calendar is complete, but all the area districts work to coordinate their calendars as much as possible. Action was tabled until a few more conversations among district administrators can take place and Kilgore says the issue will come up for consideration in January.
