Grundy County Coroner John W. Callahan is investigating a fatal pedestrian versus car accident that happened early Sunday morning.
Callahan said the accident happened on Interstate 55 near the 221 mile marker, just north of the Route 47 and Interstate 55 interchange, near Dwight.
The accident occurred shortly after midnight and witnesses at the scene and the preliminary investigation shows a male subject, who was walking along Interstate 55 jumped in front of oncoming traffic in the northbound lanes. While some cars were able to swerve and miss him, others weren’t able. Early stages of the investigation supports the pedestrian was struck more than once.
Twenty-four year old Matthew Scott Miller of Midlothian was pronounced dead at the scene by Callahan.
The incident remains under investigation by his office and the Illinois State Police.
