Relay for Live of Livingston County is a couple weeks away, and organizers are excited for some of the changes this year’s event is making.
This year, Relay will be a one-day event on August 8 at Pontiac Township High School, beginning with a pancake and sausage breakfast at 7 a.m. and ending after the closing ceremonies, which begin at 10:30 p.m.
Special laps, luminaria and other regular activities will take place throughout the day, along with new ones.
Shawna Gilliam, one of the event’s organizers, described some of the new activities on a recent Community Forum with Todd Wineburner.
“One of the things about Relay for Life is to celebrate more birthdays. This year, we’re going to have a four-foot-tall birthday cake so when the survivors go around, they will be lighting up the birthday cake, so that will be something very neat to come out and see,” Gilliam said.
