Emington’s 49th annual Third of July Celebration begins this morning around 10 and extends through until fireworks at dusk.

Event co-chair Kathy Cramer said this event has been around for 49 years now, and some of the children who created it back in the beginning are still working to organize this every year.

“It started in 1968 when the kids in town decided they were going to have a parade because everybody left town on the Fourth of July to go to other towns to see parades and other activities. They decide they were going to have one and they went around and announced to everybody that they were going to have a parade. They got all their band instruments, their wagons and pets and they had their own parade,” Cramer said.

Included in the day will be a car show, tractor drive, a bean bag tournament, parade, kids activities and fireworks at dusk.
