With temperatures rising across the area, Illinois American Water is asking customers to conserve water, in situations ranging from lawn watering to checking faucets for leaks.
Spokesperson Karen Cotton explains that those and other steps to more efficiently use water make a big difference in the long run.
“It’s really important to conserve our precious recourses. While, we aren’t on the West Coast facing drought conditions, you don’t want to use those precious resources without using them wisely, so that’s what we’re asking customers to do. Also, it can help impact your water bill positively if you use water wisely, you won’t need to use as much. If you water your lawn in the early morning or evening hours, you use less water because it’s not evaporating at a higher rate. I think that’s just really important to keep in mind,” Cotton said.
Other tips include using dishwashers and clothes washers only when they are full, and taking shorter showers as opposed to baths. For more wise water tips, visit amwater.com/ilaw.
