School physicals for students to gain admittance into Illinois classrooms are a requirement, and the Livingston County Health Department is looking to help families get a head start on meeting those requirements.
Health Education and Marketing Director Linda Rhodes explained which students need physicals.
“That’s going to be students entering school programs below the kindergarten level for the first time. This includes pre-kindergarten programs offered or operated by schools or school districts, students entering kindergarten for the first time, those students going into sixth grade, students entering their freshman year in high school, or if there’s a student entering an Illinois school after transferring from another state, because not all states have these same requirements. If you’re new to us in Illinois, you need to get a physical. Also, students participating in sports programs, they have to have their physical annually, so if you got a sports physical last year, that’s not good for this year, because those are annual physicals,” Rhodes said.
