Several students in Heartland Community College’s Phi Beta Lambda business fraternity recently placed high enough to qualify for the upcoming national competition, building the program and participation since they started competing two years ago.
Linda Lambert, associate director of business technology learning center and advisor for Phi Beta Lambda said these competitions have over 50 events that students may enter to compete against students from other colleges and universities.
“When we started out, we only had five students attending and we had 2 students that won. Then last year, we had seven students attending and we had five students that won. This year, we had 14 students and we won in 14 events. So, incredible,” Lambert said.
HCC has had two students place in the nationals every year they’ve competed. That competition is scheduled for June 24-27 in Anaheim, California.
