The National Association of Letter Carriers in Pontiac held its annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive May 13 and tied its all-time record of collecting more than 8,000 pounds of food.

Clerk Carol Faust explains how the day ended with all the donations headed to local food pantries.

“We’ve delivered over 8,200 pounds to the four food pantries – to the Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul, the First Baptist Church and the Livingston County Community Food Pantry. Everybody was super thrilled with the amount of food they got. We delivered over two vehicles full – they were trucks and vans and they were completely packed solid – and everybody was just thrilled with the amount of food they got. They were so appreciative, they could really use the help this time of year,” Faust said.

Letter Carrier Donna Beyer gave a long list of people they wanted to thank for making this day possible.

“Thank you to everyone who gave food, and especially for help, I want to say the Boy Scout Troop 876 with leader Doug Swift – they showed up first thing in the morning and stayed until the very end. All the other volunteers we had – thank you so much. We also had the dealerships – Driscoll, Fraher, Heller and Lynn – all let us use vehicles so we could load them and take the food, so a big thank you to them. Crop Production, again, this year, let us use the scale so we could weigh the amount of food we did collect and distribute,” Beyer said.

The Bloomington NALC branch also provided bags, making the pickup easier for everyone involved in the food drive.
