Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner recently announced plans to increase the state’s efforts to battle hate crimes.
While at a dinner hosted by the Illinois Holocaust Museum, Rauner detailed the initiatives, while recognizing the recent increase in anti-semitic violence. He believes more needs to be done.
“We are now developing a comprehensive curriculum, teaching aids and training for our public school teachers throughout Illinois, so we comprehensively teach about the holocaust and genocide to our young people here in Illinois,” Rauner said.
Along with this new initiative, Rauner said he also would like to see statewide law enforcement training centered on hate crime response, as well as tougher laws for instances of churches and religious centers that are victims of violence or vandalism.
