Investigation into disappearance of Streator woman continues

A Streator woman is still missing after she and her child disappeared Saturday evening in Streator.

According to a press release from the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Police, police  were investigating a call about an eastbound vehicle bring rammed several times, forcing it off the road, causing it to strike a utility pole. The male driver of the suspect vehicle took the driver of the crashed vehicle against her will. The suspect’s car was found abandoned a few blocks away. Kayla Stratton and her 11 month child disappeared, as did the suspect, Clarence Merritte.

Since then, the child was found outside the residence of a friend of Stratton late Sunday evening. The child was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for a primary health evaluation.

Stratton and Merritte are still missing, with an active warrant out for Merritte.
