Illinois State remains unbeaten in Missouri Valley Conference men’s hoops after routing Bradley 69-49 on Wednesday night in Peoria. Deontae Hawkins recorded his third double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Redbirds. Paris Lee contributed 14 points with five steals, breaking the all-time Redbird record for career steals. The Redbirds hosts Drake on Saturday night when Doug Collins is honored for his induction into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.

 

The other three Valley men’s games had more tension and some free basketball. Missouri State topped Indiana State 73-68, Drake beat Southern Illinois 88-84 in overtime and Northern Iowa bested Loyola 72-69 in double overtime.

 

In the Big Ten, Indiana edged Penn State 78-75 and Ohio State nipped Nebraska 67-66.

 

Illinois Wesleyan women lost at Augustana 83-73. The Eureka College women remain undefeated in conference play after a 64-49 win at Iowa Wesleyan.

 

In girls high school basketball, Bloomington clipped St. Thomas More 45-41 at the MLK tournament in Galesburg. At the McLean County Girls Tournament consolation semifinals, El Paso-Gridley defeated LeRoy 44-37 in overtime and Fisher beat Lexington 44-39.
