Changes Coming to Livingston County WIC Program

By Todd Wineburner

On August 17th, Livingston County’s WIC program will stop distributing benefits on paper checks and transition to issuing EBT cards to participating households. According to WIC Coordinator Kathy Kennell, the change should make the program more convenient because a single card will contain the benefits for an entire household. Previously, checks were issued to individual participants even if they were at the same address as other recipients.

WIC is the supplemental nutrition program for women, infants, and children, focusing on women who are pregnant, postpartum, or breast-feeding. It also helps infants under 1 year of age as well as children as old as 5. The Livingston County Health Department has more information about the program at lchd.us or by calling (815) 844-7174, ext. 222.

The Livingston County WIC clinic will be closed on August 10th and 11th to prepare for the transition.
