Flood Watch Issued For the Weekend

By Neil Doyle

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch due to heavy rain expected Friday night and into Saturday.

The watch goes into effect Friday at 6 p.m. and lasts until 6 p.m. Saturday. The weather services says torrential rainfall is possible Friday evening in portions of the watch area, which may cause flash flooding and very rapid river and stream rises. Rainfall totals through Saturday afternoon of two to four inches are expected, with locally higher amounts possible.

Areas that could most be affected are the Vermilion River in Pontiac, or from near Pontiac downstream to IL-23 near Streator.

A winter storm watch will also go into effect late Friday and will last through Sunday evening.
