Holidays Can Be Healthy Days

It’s the time of year when food is prevalent and many people are in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

OSF St. James Wellness Coordinator Matt Janus has some tips to stay on track during the holidays.

“There’s going to be a lot of food during this time that might not be as healthy, so my best advice is just keeping on eye on food portions,” Janus told WJEZ’s Todd Wineburner. “So maybe instead of having multiple plates at dinner, just have one. Instead of a huge piece of pumpkin pie, have a smaller sliver.”

It can also be hard to find time for physical activity with family and relatives in town.

“Even just making a 2-5 minute activity break every hour or so, that will go a huge way to achieving your goals,” Janus said.

Some suggestions, take a few laps around the house or neighborhood, and while washing the dishes, do some leg lifts.
