More Than One Showdown Going on This Weekend

There’s some side action attached to the upcoming Prairie Central/Effingham football game, but it’s all perfectly legal. Dr. Brian Stoller is an optometrist with Fairbury Vision Center. After the pairing was announced for the IHSA football playoffs, he contacted a vision care center in Effingham with a simple proposition. “We contacted them and asked if they would be willing to join us in involving our communities in a local food pantry drive to see which of our communities could produce the most donations.”

According to Stoller, Monday was considered the first quarter, Wednesday is halftime, and the last half of the game is Thursday and Friday. The actual football game between Prairie Central and Effingham is  Saturday afternoon, so the collection has to end at the close of business on Friday and then a final count will determine who has bragging rights.

Non-perishable foods suitable for food pantries are accepted. Donations should be made at Fairbury Vision Center.
