Though there will be no vote on the deal between Immigration Center of America and the Village of Dwight at tonight’s board meeting, No-ICE-Dwight is still calling for protests.
The coalition is opposed to the proposed construction of a privately operated immigration detention facility in Dwight, and therefore will still protest despite the vote being tabled, according to a statement on their Facebook page.
According to published reports, the proposed Dwight facility will house immigration offenders who are not involved in any other unlawful activity. Those suspected of more serious offenses will continue to be housed in an existing facility in Kankakee County.
The ICA requested a postponement in a letter sent to the village board Friday. The issue is on the agenda for a meeting on March 11th.
