A new year is underway and Pontiac District 90 held its first school board meeting of 2019.
It was a light agenda for January, but one item discussed was a recap of the 2018 Pontiac Holiday basketball tournament.
Superintendent Jon Kilgore tells WJEZ’s Todd Wineburner it was another successful year for the nation’s oldest high school tournament.
“We had a report about the thousands of hits we had on social media and on the web during the tournament,” said Kilgore.
“The financial report was positive this year as the weather cooperated and we had some highly ranked teams in the field. It drew a lot of people as it usually does but even more so this year which was really nice.”
Kilgore says over the years the tournament has given back over 250-thousand dollars to the school. That money has helped to provide projects both athletically and academically.
Other topics discussed included a report on the special education department and an update on the districts transportation system.
