The Pontiac Public Library will be holding a Total Solar Eclipse Lunch and Viewing Monday from 11:30 to 3 at the library.
Director Kristin Holzhauer said since this is the first total solar eclipse over the continental US in 38 years, the library will be a gathering place to watch it safely with safety glasses with the ISO 12312-2 certified eyewear provided, along with lunch and other activities.
“The event is free and the glasses I have available for the event are free. You’ll be sharing them with other participants at the event. If we come to acquire additional pairs of glasses, we’ll be selling them again. They’re for a donation to the library of $2, but supply is limited so we’re not certain we’re going to get additional pairs of glasses to sell. The best way at this point to guarantee the availability to see the solar eclipse through protective eyewear and to take part in some of the fun things NASA will be doing from Carbondale, Illinois, is to attend our event from 11:30 to 3 on Monday,” Holzhauer said.
