The most recent due date for state funding to be at schools came and went Thursday with no money, but because of the state’s lack of dependability, schools have been able to work around it and classes will begin as scheduled.
District 429 Superintendent Brian Dukes explained what his district, specifically, has done to make sure school commenced as scheduled.
“Obviously our board of education has done a very intelligent move of planning for this over these last couple of months, so that way if this day were to come, as it has, we would be able to operate and make sure our doors are open, and that’s something we want to urge to families across our school district – our doors are going to open Thursday, 8 a.m., just like we had planned to do and our doors are going to stay open. We can assure our families of that,” Dukes said.
Dukes still urges residents to contact their lawmakers and tell them how important and time sensitive school funding issues are.
