Pontiac fire destroys two mobile homes, damages another

Firefighters responded to three burning mobile homes in the Sandy Creek Trailer Park Tuesday afternoon.

According to Pontiac Fire Chief Scott Runyon, they arrived on scene at 4:15 to find two homes fully involved with a third just beginning to burn. Runyon said they extinguished the third home first, then the other two, as they were a total loss.

The fire had melted a gas meter between two of the homes, which further fueled the fire and Nicor came and shut down the gas line, with ComEd doing the same for electricity.

The two homes that were a total loss were vacant, but the people living in the third escaped with no injuries. The cause of the fire is undetermined.

Runyon said the scene was cleared at 6:15. Assisting Pontiac Fire included departments from Cullom, Saunemin and Fairbury with Duffy Ambulance also responding.
