WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., said allegations that ousted FBI director James Comey revealed in his Senate testimony Thursday that President Trump lied go beyond petty partisanship.
“Mr. Comey’s testimony about Mr. Trump’s behavior should concern any American who respects the basic rule of law and our Democratic institutions,” Duckworth said in a statement.
The freshman Senator didn’t say whether she believes the president obstructed justice.
“The former FBI director has now testified under oath that he believes the president lied and may be under investigation for obstructing an active investigation into Russia’s interference in our democracy,” Duckworth said. “These accusations are not normal.”
Duckworth added it’s time for special prosecutor Robert Mueller to swifly complete his investigation to ensure the American people know the truth about any ties between President Trump’s campaign and Russia.
