Three Chipotle Mexican Grills in Bloomington-Normal were among the chain’s restaurants hit by a cybersecurity attack which sought customers’ information stored on their credit cards.
A company blog post revealed the malware, or malicious software, searched for data including card numbers, expiration dates, and internal verification codes.
The affected restaurants include a Chipotle in Bloomington at 3-0-5 North Veterans Parkway, 7-0-1 South Main Street and 16-0-1 East College Avenue, both in Normal.
The breaches happened between March 24th and April 18th, but the company said not all Chipotle’s were involved.
Chipotle said it is supporting law enforcement’s investigation, improving its security, and working with payment card networks to increase monitoring by the banks that issue the credit cards.
