Fairbury fire displaces family

A Monday morning structure fire displaced a family in rural Fairbury.

According to Fairbury Assistant Fire Chief Martin Steidinger, the fire was called in to the department shortly after 8 a.m. and when firefighters arrived, they found the kitchen in the home gutted. Steidinger said they believe the fire started in the kitchen and spread to the attic. He said the home is probably a total loss, but they’re waiting for insurance to make a final decision.

The family is being helped by neighbors, as the fire has displaced them. No humans were injured in the blaze, but some pets lost their lives. Fairbury was assisted by Forrest, Strawn and Chatsworth fire departments.
