Hydrant testing through the summer in Pontiac

The annual fire hydrant flushing within the City of Pontiac will begin soon and will last throughout the summer months.

Pontiac Fire Chief Scott Runyon explains why this needs to be done.

“This is something we do so we know what the flow of the fire hydrants. Not every part of town is the same. We color code them after that. This is to help with our proficiency,” Runyon said.

If anyone should notice a fluctuation of water pressure or water discoloration, Runyon said it’s not harmful and suggests letting water run for a few minutes until it runs clear.
