Pontiac Fire Chief Scott Runyon had the opportunity to attend the Firefighter Memorial in Springfield on May 9.

Runyon said this is an annual event that acts as a memorial for the firefighters who were killed in the line of duty in the State of Illinois, as well as a ceremony to honor firefighters who have gone above and beyond.

“It’s always humbling. It’s sad for part of it, of course, and it brings out a lot of pride for the people who are in this job and being recognized for it,” Runyon said.
