The United Way of Livingston County is partnering with several local organizations to create a community garden to provide area food pantries with fruits and vegetables and they are looking for your help.
Executive Director Deb Howard explains what they’re looking for.
“ACE Hardware and Big R have donated the produce and vegetables for us to grow, OSF the property and Rick Hiatt is going to till it all up for us and basically we have pretty much everything we need, until we realized we don’t have any tomato cages and some other things we need. And we don’t need a lot – we need about $300. The stores have been so good to us with their donations, I don’t want to ask them for tomato cages, as well. I thought if we could raise about $300, we could get the tomato cages and we’d be at a good start to have everything up and running, because it’s really important for children to have fruit and vegetables. It builds a healthier tomorrow for all of our children and that just benefits us,” Howard said.
To donate, call them at 844-5131 or stop by the office at 210 N. Plum Street in Pontiac.
