The City of Fairbury is having its annual Clean Up Week next week to give people a chance to do some spring cleaning and have the unwanted items picked up curbside.
Street Superintendent Martin Steidinger explains.
“Each household has a regular pick up day and we do the clean up that day. You can set out furniture – the only things we don’t pick up are things like paint. You need to dispose of them in a different way. It used to be a lot bigger than what it is now, because in the last few years, we’ve been trying to tell people if you’ve got it, get rid of it now. Don’t try to hold on to it for a year then get rid of it all on clean up day, but I guess we’ve always done it, so it’s one of them deals that people look forward to and get rid of some things they wouldn’t normally get rid of,” Steidinger said.
Steidinger also said residential electronics need to be taken to the street department for recycling, which is located at the corner of Walnut and Jackson streets. For more information, call the city at 692-2743.
