Less than four weeks after the Children’s Advocacy Center reached out to the public for luggage for children coming in to the foster care system, the group, with the help of the public, has collected more than half of its original goal.
Executive Director Judy Brucker explained that most children use only plastic garbage bags during those moves, and actual luggage would mean a lot to them.
“We decided that we would ask our community to donate new duffel bags and pieces of luggage that we could then partner with our community social service agencies and DCFS to provide the kids, when they’re coming into foster care, and then the bag could travel with them,” Brucker said.
