County passes another moratorium

The wind energy discussion has been a hot one in Livingston County for several years, and the Livingston County Board approved another three-month extension for the moratorium while they finish the new ordinance.

Chairman Bob Young explains.

“We’ve talked to the attorneys that are working with us, trying to get ordinances through that will satisfy the people in the south who prefer not to have wind farms and the north east townships that prefer to have wind farms. In order to do that takes some legal maneuvering, takes some time to get everything together. Everybody is tired of moratoriums, but in order to do it right, attorneys and everyone felt we needed additional time, so we extended the moratorium, and if everything goes through, it will be in place through August. There was quite a bit of debate about it and quite a few nay votes, but it did pass,” Young said.
