The Pontiac City Council accepted the resignation of Pontiac Parks and Recreation Director Jerry Hayner at Monday evening’s meeting.

Mayor Bob Russell explained that Hayner will be retiring at the end of May.

“Jerry has been the face of our community for 40 years. He’s going to be old enough to retire, he says, he’s not very old, but he’s going to be old enough to retire after 40 years, so May 31 is his last day. In the beginning, they were located in the Armory and had a little office there. Jerry started out developing some volleyball programs and baseball programs. It expanded into different baseball leagues and so forth, and then many years ago, we built the new Community Recreation Center. Through that, Jerry has just developed program after program after program,” Russell said.
