The 2017 kindergarten and preschool screenings for the Pontiac District 429 are February 14 through 16 at the Pontiac First Baptist Church.
Preschool Coordinator Cheryl Corrigan explains why it’s good to have all children screened.
“We assess several different things. Some children may require speech services once they get to school. Some children may be delayed a little bit in their pre-readiness skills or other areas that we’d want to address right away. The sooner we have that information, the sooner we can get a plan in place to serve their child. Also, any child coming into kindergarten, it gives the parents an idea of maybe skills they might need to work on over the summer, whether they need to still practice letters or colors and things like that. It’s just a great way for us to get a look at all children coming into 429 and seeing where they’re at and seeing where their skills lie,” Corrigan said.
