The Fighting Illini fell 57-43 to Number 10 Wisconsin on Tuesday night at State Farm Center. The Badgers opened with a 16-2 run and never trailed, and dominated the offensive rebounds 19-6. Malcolm Hill and Maverick Morgan each chipped in 10 points to lead the Illini, who host Minnesota on Saturday afternoon.
Also in the Big Ten, Number 17 Maryland improved to 20-2 with a 77-71 victory at Ohio State and Iowa beat Rutgers 83-63. In the lone Missouri Valley Conference game, Missouri State nipped Loyola 82-81 in overtime.
On the boys high school basketball scoreboard, Pontiac lost at El Paso-Gridley 57-46, Fisher handled Flanagan-Cornell 65-35 and Mahomet-Seymour outlasted Prairie Central 52-33. The Dwight boys beat Momence 55-38 in the Sangamon Valley Conference Tournament in Onarga and will meet Watseka in a semifinal on Friday.
In girls’ hoops, Flanagan-Cornell-Woodland hammered Marquette 57-24 as Rachael Quaritsch became the Falcons’ all-time leading scorer with 1,431 points, and Dwight won at Wilmington 50-22.
The Blues lost to the visiting Winnipeg Jets 5-3. The Blackhawks lost at San Jose 3-1.
The Bulls are at Oklahoma City tonight.
Today is the first day of the national signing period when athletes put signatures on their letters of intent to continue their athletic careers in college. Illinois State and Illinois football are expecting classes in the 20s.
