Illinois men’s basketball was pounded at Number 21 Illinois 91-68. Purdue’s big men ruled as Isaac Haas registered 24 points while Caleb Swanigan recorded 22 points and 10 rebounds. The Illini were led by Maverick Morgan with 15 points with 12 points coming from Malcolm Hill. The Illini are at Michigan on Saturday.
Number 17 Wisconsin edged Michigan 68-64 in the only other Big Ten activity.
Illinois State men visit their Interstate 74 rivals tonight as they face Bradley in Peoria.
In the Missouri Valley Conference, Wichita State won at Evansville 82-65.
The Illinois Wesleyan women visit Augustana tonight in a big CCIW battle. Both squads are tied with Wheaton at the top of the league. Titan junior Molly McGraw is the CCIW Player of the Week.
In boys hoops, Morris beat Pontiac 53-44.
At the McLean County Tournament, Dee-Mack edged previously unbeaten Tremont 66-60 in overtime and El Paso-Gridley downed Heyworth 59-37 to set up a boys semifinal matchup tomorrow at Shirk Center. Fieldcrest and Eureka earned consolation wins. El Paso-Gridley and Lexington won on the girls side.
The Bulls fell 99-98 to the Dallas Mavericks on a three-pointer from Wesley Matthews with 12 seconds left.
Vinnie Hinostroza provided the tying and go-ahead goals in the third period of the Blackhawks’ 6-4 win at Colorado. Marian Hossa assisted on the game-winner, making him the 32nd player in NHL history with 500 goals and 600 assists.
