The idea of Fairbury Rocks popped up on Facebook very recently and has already spread to surrounding communities, but what IS Fairbury Rocks?

Group creator Lynette Headley-Johnson said the groups explosion and growth started shortly after its creation in August, and the guidelines are easy to follow and don’t require any artistic prowess.

“You just find a rock and paint it. You can use acrylic paint, chalk or markers. It’s important to seal your rock, so the outside elements will not destroy your rock art. On the back of your art, you need to write “Post to Facebook: Fairbury Rocks,” though in Pontiac, write Pontiac Rocks. Post a picture of the rocks your hiding to (the appropriate town) Rocks page, then hide your rock somewhere in the community,” Headley-Johnson explained.

Headly-Johnson does ask that people are respectful when hiding rocks and ask permission before hiding them on private property or at businesses.

She also said anyone can get involved on their own, but there will be a family friendly rock painting party tonight at Gig’s Place in Fairbury, beginning at 7. Headley-Johnson will be a guest on the early edition of the community forum later this week.
