The Children’s Advocacy Center is the new owner of a piece of artwork donated from the Pontiac Art Center.
The artwork by Nancy Flessner was based on a poem by Dr. David Alexander. It depicts news coverage of the trial of Heather Lamie, who was convicted of murdering her 4-year-old foster daughter, Kianna Rudesill. Flessner said with April being Child Abuse Awareness Month, she remembered that specific case.
“This is just a great opportunity for different organizations to work together. The Illinois State Poetry Society – what they do, this is our second collaboration and they write poems and we do pieces to represent their poems, then we do pieces and they do poems to represent our pieces,” Flessner said.
Judy Brucker, director of the Children’s Advocacy Center and CASA Program, said the group is privileged to receive the artwork.
“It’s a privilege to accept this artwork. We have been so fortunate over the years to partner with so many groups and people to support the work we’re doing on behalf of abused children in our three communities,” Brucker said.
Images of the artwork will be available on our Facebook page at facebook.com/989wjez.
