A Streator woman is being charged in the fatal crash that took the life of a doctor who worked in Streator.

Fifty-three-year-old Denise Woodring was charged Friday with one count of aggravated driving while under the influence and reckless homicide, among other charges.

According to a press release from Livingston County State’s Attorney Seth Uphoff, State Police reports said a witness observed a vehicle traveling eastbound on Route 17 crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the vehicle driven by Dr. Riyaz H. Nomani. Nomani was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Uphoff said initial toxicology reports indicate Woodring had cocaine in her system at the time of the accident and state police lab tests are forthcoming.

A press release from OSF HealthCare and HeartCare Midwest offered condolences to Dr. Nomani’s wife and three children.
