It was announced yesterday that Bob Mackenzie has been chosen as the 35th Rotary Citizen of the Year.
Rotarian Lori Pemberton said Mackenzie had numerous letters submitted on his behalf and it was a tough choice to make as there were other good candidates.
“His has been the length of time he’s done it – forty-plus years. He has impacted children through adults,” Pemberton said.
Mackenzie was shocked with the surprise announcement and said he said he would never expect to receive this kind of award.
“I’m just so surprised and so honored for the selection. You know I never have a problem with words, but you can sense how impacting this is. I’m just stunned. Totally stunned,” Mackenzie said.
There will be a banquet honoring Mackenzie at noon on April 5th at Baby Bulls Fine Dining. Call 844-6682 to make reservations. Pemberton also said people can send letters or cards for Mackenzie to PO Box 818 in Pontiac.
