Livingston County Sheriff Tony Childress filed a lawsuit Wednesday against Philip Uphoff of Graymont, seeking damages from actions, including false light and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Court documents show Uphoff created a Facebook status that included a link to a story that discussed what is stated in the story of how residents “were clearly misled” about recent drug arrests in Flanagan. In his status, Uphoff made several accusations against Childress, including going out of his way to smear the name of the current state’s attorney and forcing his officers to support the state’s attorney’s opponent.
In his court filing, Childress is asking for compensatory damages in excess of $50,000 plus court costs.
