Pontiac Police Officer Derek Shumm has been named the 2015 Officer of the Year for the Pontiac Police Department.

Schumm, who has been an officer with the department since June 2004, was chosen for this honor by peer officers and supervisors within the department. Some of his work with the department has been serving as the TASER instructor, Active Threat instructor and he is a veteran member of the Tactical Response Team.

A press release from the department also says Schumm’s well-rounded approach to law enforcement is a valuable asset to the department.
