With yesterday being Groundhog’s Day, the local spring predictor had a few things to say about the holiday.
Many locals see Pontiac Pete as Livingston County’s Punxsutawney Phil and for many years, he’s had pretty steadily correct predictions as to the timing of spring. He says he doesn’t feel pressure when it comes to what people want to hear when it comes to his special day.
“It’s really not science. I come out of the hole and I go back into the hole and that’s what I do. I either see my shadow or I don’t,” Pontiac Pete said.
As for whether he will continue to predict when spring will fall on the area, he has a simple answer about his job.
“I don’t plan on retiring. I don’t know why anyone would retire from a job like that. I kinda like it. February rolls around and I’m in groundhog heaven. See what I did there? HA!” said Pontiac Pete.
His official prediction this year is spring is coming early.
