What wasn’t said during the State of the Union address is drawing criticism from members of Illinois congressional delegation. Republican Congressman Rodney Davis said he was surprised President Obama didn’t mention the 10 U.S. sailors being held by Iran in his speech. While Davis disagreed with much of the speech, he said he did applaud Obama’s call to find a cure for cancer, which also drew praise from Democratic Congresswoman Cheri Bustos.
And in other State news:
As the budget stalemate continues, the Illinois House won’t be in session this week as previously scheduled. Members of both parties are disappointed by the cancellation. Democratic State Rep. LaShawn Ford feels lawmakers should be kept in session until the budget stalemate is resolved. Ford does put blame on Republicans, claiming their districts aren’t being impacted by the lack of a budget. But House Minority Leader Jim Durkin says the cancellation shows a “lack of urgency” from Democrats… The spokesman for House Speaker Michael Madigan said last week the scheduled session days were canceled because “the workload wasn’t there.” The House isn’t due back until January 27th.
