Another law that will take effect January 1 is the one banning sale and possession of powdered alcohol.

Pontiac Police Chief Jim Woolford talked about it on a recent Community Forum and said this is one that affects his department. He said education is important when it comes to this or any other illegal drugs.

“We have to continue to be smart with our young people and to educate them that we want them to have a long and healthy life, rather than a risky life behavior of trying drugs. As adults, we always have to try and be as less hypocritical as we can and example that behavior ourselves,” Woolford said.

Powdered alcohol, or Palcohol, is still legal in other parts of the United States.
