Last Friday, students from Pontiac Township High School spoke with Illinois prosecutors about the Prescription Pill and Drug Disposal Program.
Livingston County State’s Attorney Seth Uphoff said it’s been outstanding to watch the students operate the program, which originally was created for environmental purposes and now has found it helps law enforcement. Now, each drug-related criminal conviction assesses a fee of $40 to the P2D2 Fund, which provides grants to local law enforcement to operate the programs.
This program started in Pontiac and has spread around the world – currently utilized in six continents. In 2011, PTHS students were successful in having legislation passed to enact the program statewide.
