The Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois Tollway are teaming up to alert motorists to be prepared for winter weather driving.

“Winter Weather – Get it Together” encourages drivers to remember some key points, including always wearing a seat belt, slow down while driving, never use hand held devices, give plows space and avoid using cruise control on snow and ice.

A few other helpful tips include exercising caution while approaching intersections, ramps, bridges or shady areas, preparing an emergency care kit that is always carried in your vehicle and above all else, not traveling unless absolutely necessary in extreme winter weather.
